DISPATCHES FROM K-12

K–12 teachers in the United States have been at the forefront of militancy in the labor movement for the past decade and a half. The major touchpoints are well known: the 2012 Chicago Teachers Union strike, the 2018 Red for Ed revolt beginning in West Virginia, to the wave of illegal strikes across Massachusetts. Today, teachers are confronted with familiar and new problems, from the ever-present threat of closures and the charter movement to intensifying right-wing attacks on progressive education and the novel threats of gen AI. In these face of these and other issues at work and in the community, it is critical to document our experiences, to share our experiments and attempts to confront them at scales large and small, and to debate strategy.
